Only 5% of pet foods of international brands use raw ingredients originating from the foodstuffs section of agricultural production.
The billions of dollars pet owners spend for pet food are such a big attraction for commercial producers of pet food that they do not hesitate to use the cheapest raw ingredients in order for the price of a bag of pet food being an insignificant amount compared to its retail price and thus their profit being as high as possible. The feed 'quality' of a raw ingredient means that it is not possible to sell wheat, meat, fat, etc., originally of course produced for the foodstuffs industry, to foodstuffs producers. The reasons are certainly clear – as regards foodstuffs there are at least some inspections, but commercial pet food producers hungry for profit will buy anything... and a dog's liver must then process fungi, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
